About Me

Sport of choice: Triathlon
Class: Professional
Country: USA
Residence: Redondo Beach, CA
Stats: Ht: 6'1", Wt: 165 lbs
Favorite Fluid flavor: Berry Treasure.
Coach/Mentor and what he/she has done for your life/career: Bernard Baski of TriFit Multisports in Santa Monica. When I came to LA, I knew nobody--Bernard and his wife Gina helped get me involved in the triathlon world and helped guide me through my tough first few years. Without his guidance and pure kindness, I would have had a long, hard road to trudge down. Still to this day, Bernard and the people at TriFit Multisport are coaching me and helping me reach my goals!
Career: I ran track and cross country at Penn State, and in the summers I would do a triathlon or two to break up the monotony of running. After I graduated school, I decided to pack up the ol' station wagon and move to Los Angeles with my girlfriend and start racing triathlon for real.
Greatest achievement: For triathlon, my two straight wins at San Diego International Triathlon. For running, my mile PR of 4:01.
Favorite Athlete: Sven Nys (cyclocross monster) for his consistent dominance in an inconsistent sport.
Hobbies: Cyclocross, motorcycles, skimboarding, falling asleep at random times.
Career highlights: 2x San Diego International Triathlon Winner, beating Chris McCormack at Malibu Triathlon in 2007, 3rd fastest time at Wildflower Olympic in history when I was a rookie.
If I wasn't a pro triathlete, I'd be...: maybe a fireman?

About Me

Initially, John had horrible luck in triathlons with two flats in his first two triathlons! Two busted rims later (had no idea how to fix a flat at the time) and countless hours of training in all conceivable weather, John has become addicted to the sport of triathlon. Upon entering UC Berkeley, John was faced with the dilemma of whether to run D1 track and Cross Country or continue his triathlon endeavors within the confines of a club sport. Despite the lack of school funding at Cal for the sport of triathlon, John fell in love with the camaraderie of the Triathlon team. To this day, he believes this is one of the best decisions he has ever made.

Currently a Senior Undergrad at the University of California at Berkeley majoring in Political Science, John is also a member of the USA U23 National and World Championships team. In 2008, John looks forward to gaining some experience on the ITU world cup circuit. When he is not studying or training, John enjoys surfing, music, coaching swimming and drinking way too much coffee.
