Specialized Designs for Women

The Team
The Specialized Designs for Women Elite Cycling Team consists of women who are all accomplished both on and off the bike. Our cycling accomplishments include an Elite team comprised of Category 1, 2 and 3 riders who have consistently placed on the podium in local and regional events, won numerous state titles, placed respectfully in NRC events, as well as riders who have raced successfully on the international level. We also have a very talented group of Category 4 development riders, who have quickly been able to move through the ranks and race at a higher level with the support of our team. Our riders cover road, mountain, and multi-sport disciplines; however, our focus as the Specialized Designs for Women Elite Cycling Team is road racing.
Our team is comprised of women from all walks of life, including an executive vice president of human resources, a nurse practitioner, a software programmer, a pharmaceutical saleswoman, a marketing and web content manager, a PhD student in chemistry, a stay at home mother, among others. We also have among our ranks five professional mountain bike racers and a professional triathlete, all of whom are also skilled on the road.
Our Mission
Our mission as the Specialized Designs for Women Elite Cycling Team is to strive for excellence in our sport by keeping a strong focus on sportsmanship, camaraderie, teamwork and the development of our riders both on and off the bike.
The strength of our team is based on the contribution of each individual’s personal talents and passion for the sport and our mutual desire to work together and grow as a team.
We desire that, through our love of cycling and strong sense of teamwork, we will inspire, encourage and foster future development in women’s cycling.
We also seek to encourage women’s cycling in all forms through our website — www.womensbiketalk.com.
Women’s Bike Talk is the official website of the Specialized Designs for Women Elite Cycling Team. Our mission for Women’s Bike Talk is to provide a unique forum for women’s cycling issues on the world wide web. Our posts range from race reports and sponsor product reviews, to discussions about finding the best cycling products for women, bicycle commuting, and much, much more.

It is more than just a team website, and through it, we hope to speak to issues that impact female cyclists from the professional bike racer, to the beginner, to the weekend warrior, to the dedicated commuter, and everyone in between.

James Walsh: The Man
I grew up playing baseball and then spent years surfing, bodyboarding, snowboarding, and skating. In 2005 I was ready for a change and another challenge. So I signed up for the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January of 2006. After that I jumped headfirst in to triathlon and the fell in love with offroad racing and Xterra.
For 3 years I focused on Xterra and in 2008 was the Southwest Regional Champion and won the Xterra World Championship in the 30-34 age group in Maui. Worlds in Maui was my last triathlon. I was pretty burned and out and very content with my results. I wanted a break and a new challenge.
In 2009 I decided to focus on just running and riding... and the just riding by mid summer. I ended the 2009 season with some good results in mountain bike racing and then found a new addiction: cyclocross. I ended up with the cat 3/4 men division of the Souther California Prestige Series of Cyclocross... very unexpected.
In 2010 I will be focusing 100% on the bike. The plan is to focus on the Socal MTB State Series, Kenda/US MTB Cup Series, Rim Nordic Series, some endurance mountain bike races and then cyclocross in the fall.

Matt Erbentraut

I have been riding seriously for about 3 years now. I started racing about a year and a half ago and have been hooked to the competitive aspect of cycling ever since. I am a sophomore in high school this year and will be racing varsity in the Nor Cal Mountain Biking League. This past year, I raced Junior varsity as a freshman and went undefeated in the regular season races. I also participate in many other races like Sea Otter, Napa Skyline, and a local short track series put on by Summit Bicycles. I look forward to a great year of racing!
